Laura Benner, who described herself on VPR in July as “a very big supporter of Donald Trump” is campaigning to get Pat Nowak re-elected to city council. Both Benner and Nowak are members of the South Burlington Republican Party Committee, and Benner was a delegate at the Republican National Convention. On Friday, Benner circulated an “all hands on deck” email calling on Republicans to sign wave for Nowak and stand at the polls Tuesday on her behalf.
But not all Republicans are lining up to support Pat Nowak who many say represents the Trump extreme right wing of that party in Vermont.
The City elections on March 7 are an opportunity for South Burlington citizens to vote down that brand of politics in our local government by voting for her opponent, Jimmy Leas, who aligns with Bernie Sanders’ positions.
Jimmy Leas has been an fearless campaigner for social justice causes for decades. He campaigned for Bernie. He participated in the Women’s March in Montpelier on January 20, as did I. He stands up for the people of our city. He was endorsed by Vermont Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, Ben Cohen, Jerry Greenfield, and Rosanne Greco.
I am voting for Jimmy Leas. Please join me in voting for him on Tuesday.
