South Burlington’s Bernie: Jimmy Leas
Rosanne Greco’s letter,
as published in the Other Paper…
Like Jimmy Leas and many other Vermonters, I too have been inspired and energized by Bernie. We need good people in government, and that’s why I’m supporting Jimmy for city council.
I personally know both individuals who are seeking the two-year council seat: Jimmy Leas and Pat Nowak. I was on the city council with Pat, and I worked alongside Jimmy doing social justice activism work. Their positions differ greatly.
Jimmy is our “Bernie.” He puts people first, and is not afraid to speak truth to power. For Jimmy, ethical behavior is paramount. We need integrity and courage now more than ever.
Jimmy shares my passion for protecting our natural environment and being proactive in combating climate change. He is committed to reducing our energy consumption, and replacing fossil fuels with solar power.
Jimmy shares my concern for the people trapped in the military jet noise around the airport. The people take priority over airport wants. It is irresponsible to ignore the impacts that military jets have on us—which will only get worse with the F35–and do nothing to stop it. Jimmy knows it can be stopped. He believes we best support our military members by keeping them in Vermont, and supplying them with equipment that is safe and does not harm neighborhoods.
Jimmy sees running for councilor as a patriotic duty. Patriots question and challenge and oppose injustices. Patriotism is not blind obedience to government pronouncements.
I’m voting for Jimmy Leas. I hope you will as well.
